      3617. Rachel Clayton, born June 16, 1677 in Shrewsbery, MOnmouth Co., NJ; died Aft. April 17, 1712 in Burlington Co., NJ. She was the daughter of 7234. John Clayton and 7235. Alice Myres.

Notes for Michael Newbold II:
Michael was baptized in Eckington, Yorkshire on October 3, 1667, and died in Chesterfield Township, Burlington County, West Jersey on December 1, 1721. He married Rachel Cleayton, daughter of John and Ann Cleayton of Shrewsbury, Monmouth County, New Jersey, on February 24, 1697/8. It is through Michael: and his wife Rachel that the entire known male American descent of the Michael Newbold 1 line comes. There were in all seven children, four sons and three daughters: Ann, married William Biddle; Sarah, married Thomas Boude; and Margaret, married James Bowne. Of the four sons, John died before his third birthday. The remaining three - Thomas, Michael, and Barzillai- all of whom carried on the Michael Newbold American line.
When Michael 1 died, Michael became possessed of the Oneonickon property, which has remained in the hands of his descendants ever since. For a number of years he served on the traverse jury, and August 8, 1698 took his place on the bench as one of the justices for Burlington County. His last appearance on the bench was on June 13, 1721. He was elected township clerk on January 1, 1697, and appears at one time to have been township assessor. He became an extensive landholder in various sections of the province, and at the time of his death was one of the largest landed proprietors in New Jersey. He was a member of the Church of England, and one of the organizers of St. Ann's, afterwards
St Mary's, Church in Burlington.

Families History of Philadelphia by Houston p. 269: He came to America
with his parents and succeeded to a large part of his father's lands and
estate in Burlington County, and purchased other lands there, owning at
the time of his death a farm of 300 acres in Springfield Township, upon
which he resided; 500 acres in the upper part of Springfield, and 400
acres in Hunterdon County. His personal estate amounted to nearly 700
pounds, including 2 negro slaves. He was a justice of Burlington Co.,
and served as an officer under Colonel Daniel Cox. His will was dated 29
Nov 1721 which mentions his children: Thomas, Michael, Ann Beetle,
Sarah, Barzilla and Margaret. Will proved Dec 15, 1721.

Comly Family in America, George Norwood Comly, 1939, p. 941: He was
evidently recognized as one of the most influential men of his day in
Burlington Co., was Justice of Peace 1689, 1700, 1, 3, 4, 8, 9. Justice
of Court of Common Pleas 1706. During his lifetime he accumulated much
property in addition to his inheritance from his father and at the time
of his death he had become one of the largest landholders in NJ.

The Will of Enoch Core, of Eversham, Burlington Co., NJ dated 22 Nov
1713, proved 25 Mar 1714, is filed in the Statehouse at Trenton, Lib #1,
p. 442: This Twenty Second day of the Ninth Month Called November in the
Yeare of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Thirteene I Enoch Core
of Evesham in the County of Burlington and Province of New Jersey,
Yeoman, being weake of body but of Sound and perfecte Memmory praised be
God for the Same and Knowing the uncertainty of this Transitory life
upon Earth and the Certainty of Death and being willing to Settle all my
concerns in this World do make and Constititute this my last Will and
testament in Writing in Manner and forme following, hereby Revoaking &
making Null & Voyd all former & other Will and Wills Testament &
Testaments by me heretofore made and do Declare This to be my last Will
and Testament, bequething my Soul to God my maker hopeing to obtaine
Salvation through faith in Christ Jesus my Redeemer and my body to be
buried at the Disrection of my Executrix hereinafter Named. Impr I give
and Bequeth unto my Sonn Enoch My Dwelling house with all the Land there
unto belongeing containing Three hundred and ninty acers or thereabouts

Mary and to her heires and Assignes forever that fifteen accers of Land
in the Town bounds of Burlington which was willed to me by my
Grandfather Watter Humphrys. Item I Do nominate Apoint Constititute and
Make my Trusty and wellbeloved wife Sarah my whole & Sole Executrix of
this my last Will & Testament and I Do GIve to my Said Executerix and to
her Disposing forever all my Personall Estate Goods & Chattles
Whatsoever quick and Dead I alls Give unto my Said Executerix and to her
Disposing forever my house and Lott in Burlington which was willed to me
by my aforesaid Grandfather Walter Humphryes, with all the Privilidges &
the Appurtenances thereunto belonging, In Testimony whereof I the
aforesaid Enoch Core have here unto Sett my hand and Seale the day and
Yeare first above written 1713 my will is that my sonn Enoch enter Upon
the premises herin given him when he shall atain to the age of one and
