George W. Gibson served in Company 1 of the 3rd Infantry CSA (official rolls found in the "Tennessee in the Civil War - Part 2").He enlisted at Campbellsville in May 1861.He served under Captain William Peden.He was wounded at Ramond, Mississippi in 1863 with a mini-ball in his left shoulder.A small bible in his pocket deflected the bullet (away from his heart).
He was a prisoner in Yankee Camps at Fort Donaldson in Nashville, TN in 1864.He took an oath not to fight against the Union again in order to get out of prison and return home.He wanted to return home because he heard that the Union had burned his parent's home at Gibsonville. (Later believed that only the furniture was burned).Due to his oath, he could not draw a Confederate pension.However, he attended the annual reunion of the Confederate Soliders until the time of his death traveling by train to the surrounding states.
Records of the Confederate Soliders that were imprisoned in Nashville (as found in the Tennessee Library of Archives) shows George W. Gibson as an entry:

Residence - Giles County
Complextion - Fair
Hair - Brown
Eyes - Hazel
Height - 5' 8"
Released in Nashville, TN on January 8, 1865 by Major General Thomas
He was burried in his Confederate uniform.
The inscription on his grave marker reads as follows:"Another with a master's art trailed hard and served his days in dusty road and busy mart.He wought the purpose of his heart into the world for aye."
