CD159, New England Families, #2-The name Wyman is undoubtedly of early Saxon origin and in common with other ancient names is variously spelled Wiman, Wymond, Wymant, Wimond, Ymond are some of the forms found in old records. Withlaf, the Saxon king, had ason Wimond, born 825 and an old Roman town in Leicestershire given to him was named Wymands Town. Wimond is doubtless the same ame as Waermond, the mythological son of Woden, the Saxon deity. Wymands Town because Wymandham, a visit to which is described by Mr. Horace Wyman in an address at the Wyman reunion 14 Feb 1908, afterwards pubshed, Wyman or Wymond, as a surname, had been in use from the time when surnames were used in England. The family became numerous in various counties of England and America ad it is estimated that there are fully 10,000 descendants of the two American immigrants mentioned below. Francis Wyman, father of the American pioneers, lived at WestMill, Hertfordshire, England. His home was at Brook End, about one mile from West Mill church, and afterward at West Mill Green, a half mile from Brook End. His wife was of the Richardson family that sent threee brothers to new england. The Wymans and Richardsons were founders of Woburn, MA. We grew up in a large post-Victorian house built in 1904 by Dr. F.H. and Julia Lord next to where the Jenkses had lived in Plano, IL The full attic of this house was stuffed with antiques and memorabilia from five different families dating back to the 1850's. It was through the perusal of a trunk of letters kept by my grandmother Julia Custin Lord that I began to realize that the lively creative spark characterizing the family interactions may have emanated from the Hickok women. Thanks to the Mormon website I realized that the crossover Hickok relative came from Stratford on Avon in 1635.....interesting isn't it. Blodgett/Sarah Schellenger Date: Sunday, October 01, 2000 9:48 PM Diane and Milbrey -- I saw your listing of the Hudson Jerome Blodgett/Sarah Ellen Schellenger family in the Rootswebs GEDCOMs, with Diane's listing and Milbrey being listed as the source. I am researching the Blodgett family in that area, and I believe that Hudson Jerome was the son of Russell Blodgett, the brother of my g-g-g-grandfather Squire Blodgett. I have info on the Blodgett line if that is remotely what you are interested in. I'm interested in whether there are descendants of this line interested in the Blodgetts. Thanks in advance for any response. I've pasted in what little I have on Hudson and Sarah below. I have more info on his father and grandfather. John Laird Santa Cruz, CA ------------------- Hudson J. Blodgett -- the son of Russell(shown previously as H.J. in 1860 and Jerome in 1870), it is clear in the 1880 census that his name was Hudson J.(he probably went by Jerome) and that he was probably not called Hudson because of his cousin by the same name, the son of James S. An H.J. Blodgett is shown in the 1877 Kett book as a farmer in Sharon(LeRoy) and it is probably Hudson J. In the 1880 census he is shown in LeRoy township as a 28-year old farmer, born in Illinois with both of his parents born in New York, married to Sarah E., 24, "keeping house", born in Illinois with her father born in New York and mother in Massachusetts. They were shown with three children, Edmund B., age 5, Jesse H., age 3, and George O., age 1, all born in Ill. He and Sarah and shown in Blaine Cemetery. Hudson J. is shown to have been born May 23, 1852 and dying Sept. 4, 1901. Sarah E. is shown to have been born March 28, 1855, and dying Dec. 14, 1944. The lot where they are buried is owned by Fred and Ella Blodgett. 20 Feb 2002: Sent a letter to STEPHEN E COLEMAN, 707 VALLEYDALE RD., CHARLOTTE, NC 28214 on WFT 25, Tree# 1033 on the Blodgett family line.
