Notes for Alvin R. Nutt:
More Neighboring On The Seventh
Mom and Dad always enjoyed dancing.Every Friday night there was a dance at Donegal in the hall over the store.Dad called for the square dancers while mom played the piano part-time.Another place that had dances was the Britton Orange Hall. The ladies took a lunch.A boiler of water was put on the stove in the early evening and a boiler of coffee was made.Anyone who could play a violin, guitar, or mouth organ would take turns along with the piano. The children played and danced until they became tired and fell asleep.
One day my brother Alvin came home from school complaining about his aching legs.Of course Mom and Dad thought he had been playing too hard.He was taken to a specialist, who said, "I', sorry, I can't help him.He has inflammatory rheumatism."He handed Dad a bill for $25.00.Alvin went to school on crutches, but later was confined to bed.The neighbours were so good with treats. At Christmas time, they gave him a radio.
Alvin became very weak and one sunny morning he passed away. That was April 19, 1931.All the neighbours helped by bringing in food.Pearl Johnston and Jeanette came along with Mary Hymers, and the list goes on.Everyone was there to help/
