The Oakland-Hoisington--Lewis-Jewett Family Home Page

Updated May 5, 2001

The names at the left are the family names of my grandparents, and I am seeking as many ancestors as possible.
A Richard Woodward, an ancestor along the Jewett line is known to have been born in England in the 17th century.

Polly Fearing Scott Phillips Brown, said to have been the first white child in Ohio territory, was my fourth great-grandmother on the Hoisington side, and hundreds of her descendants are listed in a book prepared by a distant cousin c1960.

My great-grandfather Amos Oakland (Amon Olson) came from Norway in the 1800s; one of his grandsons claims to have met a second cousin who has traced the family to the 14th century.

Samuel Lewis, my great-great-grandfather, and the earliest known ancestor in that line, settled near what is now Davenport Iowa.

My grandmother said that the Hoisingtons came from Switzerland with the "DeSteigner colony", but I have no record of that.

I'll share what I have and hope that someone can share new information with me.
