Mary Jane O'Brien (daughter of Timothy J. O'Brien and Elizabeth Thompson) was born in Bedwelty, Monmouthshire, Wales, UK, and died 25 January 1937 in Belmont, MA.

Includes NotesNotes for Mary Jane O'Brien:
Mary Jane O'Brien was believed to be the twin sister of William O'Brien and the younger sister of John J. O'Brien. Subsequent knowledge gleened from the census records of wales, UK reveal that Mary Jane may not have been a twin and that she may have been older than William, but younger than John: ie, born between 1857 and 1860. Conceivably, Mary Jane could have have born about April 1859.
According to the 1880 census she was living in Belmont, MA in the home of her in-laws: Patrick T Shean and his family. Her age was listed as 18 (therefore her birth year was 1862). Also living at this residence was her uncle, Maurice O'Brien a brother of Timothy O'Brien (the father of John J. O'Brien, Mary Jane's brother). This is the basis of the O'Brien-Shean relationship.
According to the census records of 1900 she was living on Westburne Terrace in Brookline Township, MA., and working as a servant to a family by the name of Fennessy. Mr Frank Fennessy was a manufacture of Shoe polish and at age 32 was successful enough to have a servant for his family.
The 1900 census data also gives her birth as Jan or Jun. 1862 (the month as written in the census is written poorly and is either Jan or Jun. The month is clearly 1862) and she immigrated to USA in 1872. She could read write and speak English.
Between 1910 and the late 1920's it is believed that she was a pastry Chef at the Wellesy Inn in Wellesy, MA.
In March, 1932 She lived at 26 Center Ave with her relatives: Celia O'Brien (the widow of her brother John J. O'Brien).
From July 1932 to Apr 1933 she lived with Austin and Mary O'Brien at 17 Drew Rd in Belmont. She moved to Lexington, temporarily, and then she went to live with Mary and Louise O'Brien (the children of William O'Brien, her twin brother) at 12 Winn St, Belmont. She was at that residence when she passed away, 25 January 1937. In her declining years she was probably suffering with senility and was difficult to care for. Hence the multiple moves. She is buried in St Patrick's Cemetery in Watertown, MA.
Her primary occupation was as a servant/housekeeper/cook/pastry maker at which she was quite successful.
She never married.
