James Lunney grew to become a well respected politician and was the city treasurer for Richland Township. Around 1937, financial irregularities were alleged and he lost both the family farm on Lunney Road and his position as treasurer. He died by his own hands from a gunshot and it was ruled as a suicide.
The obituary was posted as a front page news story in the Saginaw News; Tuesday December 14, 1937: "County Ex-Treasurer James Lunney Dead."
