TheLowe family well known in LaChute, began with the marriage of Austin Lowe (Rawcliffe, Quebec) and Margaret Ann McCoy (St. Phillipe, Quebec), In Grenville, Quebec. Austin Lowe was a cheesecake maker who opened five cheese factories in Grenville and the surrounding areas. They purchased a small general store at what came to be known as "Lowe's Corners." They had nine children (listed below). Emmet Lowe told me he is descended from the Martin Lowe family from the Rawcliffe, Quebec. He used to own the Lowe Dairy on Main Street (Principale), in LaChute. His father's name was Austin Lowe. His grandfather was named Martin Lowe. He remembers Ocsar Ivall coming to visit them. He also remembers the Belt's, Sugars' and Weber's. Emmet was born at home in Grenvile, Quebec, upstairs from the family store. He remembered grandpa Wilfred Shannon coming to visit him once about 1961-1962 and asking about the family line. This was probably during the period in which he was helping Jeanette (Gillie) Wallace compile the family line for her application to the DAR. Martin was an accomplished musician who played percussion until he was forced to retire from it due to cataracts in both eyes. Cataracts are a Shannon failing that has been well documented in many generations. Emmet knew the Ivall's were cousins and they had a lot of interaction with him as they grew up. He told us all the Lowe's are in the Grenville or the LaChute cemeteries. He remembered the Boyd's from Arundel. One of his cousins married Eleanor Boyd.
