Welcome to the unofficial gathering place of Ockerman information. If anyone has information on the Ockerman family I would appreciate being contacted and sharing information. I am stuck prior to 1800 in Rowan County, NC with Daniel Ockerman, Sr. Daniel was a Dunkard (German Brethren) minister, preaching in Rowan County then moving to Hinkston Creek (East Union), Nicholas County, KY around 1800. Where he lived along Hinkston Creek became part of Bath County (Bath became a KY county in 1812). Daniel's wife was Elizabeth. Daniel had a sister Anna who married a John Helms in Rowan County, NC 1782. My information is that Daniel's family was from along the Ocker (Ukker) river in Germany, unknown which generation came to America. Daniel and many of his children moved to Highland County, OH in 1812, settling in Smokey Row, Salem Township. Daniel, Sr. presided over the Brethren church at Sinking Springs in White Oak township, Highland County, OH. I am unsure when he died but have found a Daniel in the 1830 and 1840 census of Highland County. My direct descendant from Daniel was his son Daniel. I believe he married Hannah Scutchfield, I believe she died prior to Daniel moving to Highland County in 1820. After moving to Highland County he married an Eliza and then moved to Decatur County, IN around 1833. From IN my family arrived in Iowa during the 1850's. There were at least 3 branches of Ockerman's that congregated around Bourbon, Montgomery, Bath and Nicholas counties KY about 1800. I have info on many other branches of Ockerman's as well as contacts and would be glad to share. If you are an Ockerman or descendant of an Ockerman, please contact me, you may have some info we are looking for.
