UNDER RE-CONSTRUCTION
My goal has been to trace our families ancestors as far back as possible into the towns and villages of Europe and to share this information with thoses who are interested in their genealogy.
Family roots are important to help us understand who we are and our history. I have spent the last 5 years seeking to learn more about my families ancestors. Because of my interest and efforts I have found distant relations in Germany(the Bohnsack and Krienke line) and Odlaugs(now Odlo) in Norway. I have had fun doing this work. I think the results make it worthwhile and hope you agree.
Our family is of European heritage with the blood of the nationalities of the Germans, Norwegians, Croatian, French, and Irish. Our roots in the United States are primarily in the states of Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, Illinois and Missouri. The surnames important to our history besides Odlaug are Brennan and Brannan, Bohnsack, Krienke, Reishus, Schwalbe, Urberger and Suljak.
Over 40 million people emigrated from Europe to the United States between 1830 and 1914. Most of our ancestors came after 1840. Like many others they came to seek a better life as a result of economic hardships in Europe leading to high unemployment, poverty and poor housing. Up to 1895 most of the immigrants to the United States came from Norway(in our case our Odlaug and Reishus ancestors), Germany(our Bohnsack, Krienke and Schwalbe ancestors, France(our Urberger ancestors) and Ireland (Brennan). After 1895 most emigrants were from the central and southern parts of Europe(our Suljak ancestors). Their means of travel to the U.S. were via ships. They all shared a pioneering spirit and a wish to improve their lives.
Each of these families have their own stories of which some are better documented then others.
Below you will find a number of family photographs, documents, genealogy reports, and links to other related sites. Some of the links are to photo albums on the internet. Please fell free to e-mail me with any comments or corrections.
