Notes for HENRY LUNDY, SR:
Re:bp. --IAW census, Henry was born in VA.It is rather evident that he was slave owned by John M Lundie who came to Ga in the 1850's from Brunswick Co, VA.It is not known whether John brought Henry with him or whether he purchased him after his arrival in Ga.If he brought him it is likely that Henry was also born in Brunswick Co.If not, even though Henry was born in VA it may have been any county. The 1860 Slave census states that John did own a male slave that coincides with the age of Henry.Until research proves otherwise I am assuming that Henry's bp. was Brunswick Co.
Marriage Notes for HENRY LUNDY and LIZA PERKINS:
Since this union was between two slaves before 1869, it is assumed that no legal marriage ceremony was performed.(By law slaves were not permitted to marry and records were not kept for African Americans in GA until 1869.)Knowledge of the union was obtained from the death record of Soloman Lundy. Four known children resulted from this union, Solomon, Reuben, Lewis and Jackson.
Marriage Notes for HENRY LUNDY and PHYLLIS MCKINLEY:
It has not been determined if Henry and Phyllis had any children from
this union, however, it is possible that a child named Ola who showed up
on the 1880 census was born as a result.Further research needed.
Notes for MARY COOK:
Mary was found on the 1870 census for Coweta Co., GA listed as Puss Cook (Annie Lundy had told me that Mary always used the nickname of Puss). She had 3 children listed with her at that time.
Marriage Notes for HENRY LUNDY and MARY COOK:
Mary was the third wife of Henry. She had three children prior to the marriage, Marsh, Obediah and Anne Cook.Henry had four prior children, Solomon, Reuben, Lewis and Jackson as a result of his union with Liza Perkins. A child named Ola showed up on the 1880 census with an age of 11, indicating that she was born in 1869.She was not on the 1870 census with either Henry or Mary.It has not been determined who the mother of this child was.Henry married Phyllis McKinley on 25 Oct 1869 but she was not on the 1870 census with him.It is very possible that she was the mother of Ola and died before the 1870 census and the baby was living with someone else at that time.Another possibility is that Ola was Mary's child born after the 1870 census and her age reported incorrectly on the 1880 census. In that case, her father may or may not have been Henry.Research is still continuing in that area. The known children of the union between Henry and Mary are Evangeline, Exa,Thomas, Willie, Henry Jr, and Caroline. There must have been othersthat ended in death or miscarriage because the 1900 census states that Mary was the mother of 15 children with 2 still living. It is known that those 2 were Henry Jr, and Caroline.Primary and/or secondary records have
only been found for the 9 above.

Notes for OLA LUNDY: The biological parent's of this child is not clear. She shows up on the 7 Jun 1880 census report with an age of 10 yrs. She is not on the 1870 census report for either Henry Lundy or Mary Cook.3 possibilities come to mind (1)She is child of Henry and Phyllis, born in 1870 prior to 13 Aug; Phyllis is dead and baby is with someone other than Henry. (2) She is child of Mary born in 1870 after 12 Oct and father is someone other than Henry. In which case, her name is probably Cook instead of Lundy. (3) She is child of Mary and Henry born after 12 Oct and prior to their marriage. If her age is correct then (1) is probably true since the 1880 census was taken on 7 June. |
