Oral History from Margaret O'Keefe (aka Z.L. Margaret Townsend):
On Conny's injury as Chief of Police, Trumansburg-
Wilsons Jewelers in Syracuse NY was robbed (circa 1924-7?), suspects in dark colored Lincoln 4 door.
Conny staitoned roadblocks between Auburn NY and Trumansburg NY. He manned one on what is now Rte 38 S. A black Lincoln w/ suicide doors approached. He stopped the car and stepped on the running board to speak to the driver, at which time a passenger, unseen by him, opened the rear door and struck him across the head with the cars crank, knocking him unconcious.

The injury caused his resignation from the post of chief of police, and was to be the cause of a brain anurism in 1943 that led to his death.
