After receiving the insurance settlement from Jimmy's death, Vonda purchased the house at 422 West Forrest, Shawnee, Oklahoma, from Bill and Barbara Caskey. The house is located on the corner of Kickapoo and Forrest Streets. Vonda's mother, Ruby, lived next door at 420 West Forrest. Victor Oldham had owned the home prior to the Caskeys. Vonda and her two sons moved from a rental property diagonally across Kickapoo St. sometime in 1969. The famous tree-house remained there for several years and was once in the Shawnee News-Star Escort.
