Don Tomas De Olivares was born in Saltillo Mexico.He was the son of Blas De Olivares and Maria Ramona Escandon.She was related to Jose De Escandon, the General given the credit for the largest migratory expedition to settle the northern borders of Mexico, which included Texas (Tejas).His expedition was larger then the expedition of the Mormans who settled in the Utah area hundred or more years later.You can find out more about Jose De Escandon'samazing story in the internet by typing his name or by going to http://www.rootweb.com/~mextam/escand01.htm
Tomas De Olivarez was granted Porcion 34 (Land Grant #34) which he named RANCHO LA BONITA.It is located near Camargo Mexico, closer to a small village called Comales Mexico.Comales is about 17 miles south southwest of Camargo Mexico.Camargo is across the Border from Rio Grande City Texas.Part of Tomas' land grant is now under water due to the building of a Dam named after General Trevino.His brother Antonio De Olivares (Record 422) was awarded Porcion 36, just a few miles from Tomas' land.Don Bernardo Ynojosatook possession of Porcion 8 that first belonged to Joseph Antonio Gonzalez.He then sold it to Don Tomas De Olivares.Therefore, my GGGGGrandfather Tomas had two Land Grants, Porcion 34 which was given to him by the King of Spain, and Porcion 8 which he later bought.Both of them ran East to West on the South side of the Rio Grande River. ( In Mexico this river is called El Rio Bravo)
There is a Museum dedicated to Tomas in the small town of Comales Mexico.It is run by the Garcia Family.They are related to the brother and sister team of Garcias that married the son and daughter of Tomas, Francisco an Gertrudis Olivares.Francisco marred Josefa Garcia an Gertrudis married Pedro Ygnacio Garcia.They descend from Pedro and Gertrudis.
