The Gongoras of California descend from Jose Maria Gongora, son of Cristobal Gongora and Maria Josefa Rodrigues.Jose Maria was born in Loreto Baja California in 1771.He was a soldier at he San Diego Mission.In May 1776 he married Maria Rosalia Maximiana Verdugo.In 1782 he retired to Loreto where he died.He and his wife raised two sons, Josef Antonio Gongora who was born in 1778 was one.At 29 Josef Antonio marriedMaria Dominga Serrano.They had two children, Jose Antonio an Maria Rafaela.Josef died in 1831.
