To John Bruce, Philip Housworth, Samuel Howard, John Parris - These are to authorize and impower you or any three of you, to repair to all such parts and places in this District as you shall be directed unto by Mary Howard and John Howard, Executor and Executrix of all and singular the goods and chattels of Edward Howard deceased, wheresoever any of the said goods and chattels are within the said District and shall be shewn you by the said Executors and their view and appraise the same, being first duly sworn to make a true and perfect Inventory and Appraisement of all and singular the goods and chattels of the said Edward Howard deceased and cause the same to be returned under your hands to the said Executor and Executrix within sixty days from the date hereof.
Given under my hand this 14th of September, 1808.

Philip Housworth lived next door to Edward and Mary, and John Jr. In 1840, after the family moved to Dekalb County, Georgia, Mary was declared mentally incompetent by Dr. Hayden Coe. Philip Housworth was appointed her guardian.

This is to certify that my Mother, Mary Howard is not capable of attending and managing her own businez for she has lost her reasons and rite minde and that it was her wish when she was in her right minde that Philip Housworth should be her agent and gaurdiaen to mange her busnez for her and it is my wish that Philip Housworth is appointed her gaurdiaen by the Court at this term.
