My name is Jerry and I would love to hear from anyone else researching any of my lines. I am willing to share any of my research and appreciate getting new information. I don't limit my research to direct descent only and collect information about the families in general as well. I particularly am interested in fleshing out individuals with more than just their names and dates. Please contact me if your research or interests parallel mine.

Surnames that I am researching are Burnett, Barnett, Royall, Farrar, West, Boiter, Rogers, Duncan, Ballew, Howard, Pitman, Gosnell, Harris, Hancock, Felmet, Minor, Spratt, Sprott, Grigg, Cline, Carpenter, Grigg, O'Neil, Swearingen, Lockett, Elam, Hill, Branch, Perrin, Rush, Adolph, and Harling.
These families were all concentrated in Maryland, Virginia, North and South Carolina beginning in the 16th Century.

I am especially interested in any information relating to:

*Any information about Hancock families living in Newberry or Edgefield Co., SC during the late 1700's and the 1800's.

* Any Felmet.

* Any information about the Ballew's of Glassy Mountain, Greenville Co., S.C. that could help me sort out the families.

Family Photos

  • Mary Jane Ballew Burnett (32 KB)
    Mary Jane Ballew Burnett, wife of Benjamin Richard Burnett and daughter of Benjamin Franklin Ballew and Julia Ann Howard Ballew
  • Wiley & Mary Jane or John H. and Clarissa Hancock? (13 KB)
    It has been suggested that the couple in this photo are Wiley H. Hancock and his wife, Mary Jane. This is based on the appearance of the wife. I am having a hard time reconciling that with the appearance of the man, however. Comparing all the images of Wiley at various ages, this is not him. Both women are indeed similar, but I don't think that it is enough to overcome the difference in the men. That said, the resemblance is there, but I feel these are Wiley's parents, John and Clarissa.
