I am Looking for any Information reguarding the Surname O'Melia's From the Halifax Nova Scotia Area.
I was born in Halifax at the Grace Martinty Hospitial on May 30th 1937. My Mother name at the Time was suppose to an Althea Boyd, (nee Patterson ) Formerly from Sussex New Brunswick or Castard Mountain. Her mother was Mary Patterson and Lived with a mam called Mark Allen in Spryfield N.S. I suppect He was well known in Halifax at the time of my Birth as he was not hard to miss because he had a peg Leg and Peddle from door to door all through the Halifax County area.
My Father is said to be a Reginald OMelia from the Eastern Shore of Halifax County. In the area of Musquodoboit Harbour, And only died a couple of years ago. and is Buried in the Local grave yard. ( this is what I have told a kind lady from that area }
I have never ever met my father or mother and was brough as an orphan at The Infants Home on Tower Road and at the Protestant Orphange on Veith Street in the north end of the City. It now a home for unwed mothers. from there I went to live in East Chezzetcook with a nice Family of the name Angus and Marguite Conrod, I stayed there until I was 14 years old, and then old Mark Allen came and got me so that I could go door to door peddling with Him . we used to peddle Castille Soap and Safety pins cheap oraments etc,etc. It was one the hardest time of my life, He was not a nice man.
I would appreciate if anybody in cyber land could provide me with any information on the Surname O'Melia. as I am trying figure my out the Heritage of my Family to pass on to my Three Children before I am called a away to another Karma.
I now live in Niagara falls,Ontario and have been Married to the Former Gearldine DeLorey from the little Villiage of Herring Cove outside of Halifax for the last 38 years.Her father name was Clifford who was fisherman a few years ago died and her mother name is Edna. who lives in Halifax now
please help if you can, It hard not to not know ones history, I find as I get older it leaves a bigger question in my mind as the years swiftly roll by. where my Family tree started from. and what my family was like before I came on the scene.
