DALRYMPLE: As the last of "my" Dalrymple line, I've specific goals in mind: Finding my closest living relative on the Dalrymple side of the family, and fulfilling the promise I made to my late father to complete the family tree as far back as possible. The farthest back I can reliably is my great grandfather Robert Dalrymple, b circa 1789 in Fifeshire, Scotland according to his gravestone. His brother John was born circa 1798. Any help on the brick wall of finding the parents of Robert and John will be greatly appreciated! CROSS: On the side of my late mother's family, I've located my GGGG grandfather John Cross's wife Jane Dean. "My" John Cross came from Swalcliffe, Oxford, married Jane in Shutford, and settled there. Some of my Cross family came from Banbury, not far from Shutford; think of the nursery rhyme about Banbury Cross. BRADBURN: Looking for the biological father of my maternal grandmother, Florence Bradburn, born 12 February 1875 in Birmingham, England. Her mother was Eliza Sophia Bradburn, and the two were raised as sisters by Eliza's parents, as Eliza was very young when she had Florence out of wedlock. The father's surname was Lapworth, and he supported Lizzie and Florence for some time. The Bradburns later emigrated to Canada. THOMSON: My maternal great grandmother Ann Baldwin Thomson, b 15 Dec 1848 in Gorbals, Lanark Co, Scotland, died at a young age in South Africa. She had married William Pearson September 1868. Her children were sent back to England to be raised by maiden aunts Emma and Nellie Thomson. Their father, her grandfather, was Alexander Thomson, b Scotland 1816, who married Emma Jane East sometime prior to 1844. I have not been able to find Alexander's parentage. He was a professor of theology at the University of Edinburgh. Another of his daughters, Emily Gertrude Thomson, was ans artist and a friend of Charles Dodgson, who wrote the Alice books under the pseudonym Lewis Carroll. She illustrated a number of his poems and also "The Nursery Alice. I've lots of material to share with anyone who thinks my family may have crossed the trail of theirs at some point.
