The Brabsons and Brabstons in the United States Updated March 10, 2005

The primary surname being researched is Brabson/Brabston. Variations recorded are Brabstone, Brobston, and Brabazon. The ancestry points to the family being from Ireland, not Wales as previously believed. The Brabson/Brabston family is first listed in East Nottingham, PA in the early 1700s. The migration path was then to Frederick County, VA, in the mid-1700s, then into Kentucky and East Tennessee in the late 1700s and 1800s. In the mid 1800s, some family members moved to Ohio and Illinois. By the early 1900s the family started spreading all over the Eastern United States from Michigan to Texas. We have now located Brabsons and Brabstons in 18 states. Currently there are 270 Brabsons listed nationwide and about 100 Brabstons. But with the number of female descendants, we know that the actual number of Brabson/Brabston descendants is much higher. In my branch alone, there are 25 first cousins, 47 second cousins, 85 third cousins, and 12 fourth cousins. Now we need the Brabson and Brabston women to come forward and declare their heritage! We have formed a Family Association and would like all Brabson and Brabston descendants to contact us. The next Brabson/Brabston Family Reunion: October 2002 - Knoxville, TN.
