Jacob Shaw McComb (son of Jacob Evans MCCOMB and Mary Polly Evans) was born August 21, 1835 in Tuscumbia, Miller County, Missouri, and died March 23, 1927 in Oregon City, Clackamus County, Oregon. He married (1) Julia Ann Loveall. He married (2) Emily Ann Degraffenreid on February 10, 1853 in Tuscumbia, Miller County, Missouri. He married (3) Eveline E. Reynolds (Little?) on November 30, 1888 in Tuscumbia, Miller County, Missouri.

1854 - He moved to Texas at the age of 19.
1857 - He returned to Missouri when he was 22.
1860 - He was ordained as a Baptist Minister at Union, Miss ouri, at the age of 25.
1861-1865 - In 1861 he volunteered in the home guard durin g the Civil War and preached in the camps of the soldiers.
1860-1876 - He was a pastor in Union, Missouri.
1876 - In 1876, Rev. J. S. McComb moved to Ash Grove, Kansa s (on the Stockton-Belmont Township line in Rooks County) w here he took up a homestead on the SE1/4SE1/4 24-7-19 in Be lmont township, at the age of 41.
1876 - He was elected a Rooks County Commissioner for a on e year term. (1904 Article)
1877, April 5 - Rev. J. S. McComb has so far recovered fro m his recent injuries as to be able to fill his position a t this place (Stockton) last Sabbath.
1877, April 12 - The neighborhood dogs got among Rev. McCom b's flock of sheep the other day and killed seventeen of th e number. This is quite a serious loss to Mr. McComb, and p arties owning the dogs are not able to pay the damages.

1880 - He organized a Baptist Church in Ash Grove, which wa s later moved to Webster Kansas.

1887, June 18 - FROM ASH GROVE - Chas. Martin is the oldes t settler in this part. The next oldest settler here is Rev . J. S. McComb, who settled in the spring of 1875. He has t he finest residence in this part, surrounded by a nice grov e. He has 80 acres of splendid corn, a large field of oats , a fine garden, a cabbage patch of 900 plants. He also ha s a fine orchard and vineyard, surrounded by a beautiful gr ove of forest trees. His farm consists of 360 acres, wit h a splendid spring of water, and a good pasture. Take it a ll in all it is as fine a farm as can be found in Rooks cou nty.

1888, November 30 - Mrs. Eveline Little, mother in law of T . S. Porter, was married the 14th inst. to the Rev. J. S. M cComb of Stockton. The ceremony was performed by a brothe r of the groom - From Logan Republic.
1889, February 28 - Religious meetings have finally close d in Webster for the present. About 60 persons have made kn own their wish to become members of the church, of these 4 9 have joined the church as probationers and two by letter . On account of inclement weather, the Baptist people hav e not been able to admit to full membership those persons w ho have expressed a wish to join their society.
1889, April 4 - On the 27th inst. many old friends of Rev . J. S. McComb assembled at his house to give him a surpris e, and to offer some token of their esteem. About 60 person s were present, including a number of Stockton's elite. Web ster people were there, of course, and the evening was soci ally spent until lunch was served, after which some choic e selections of music were rendered. Mrs. M. B. Zimmer, o f Stockton, presiding at the organ. As the hands of the clo ck pointed to eleven, Rev. McComb made a nice little speec h to his friends, and at his request, George McCubbin concl uded the entertainment with a prayer.

1890, January 24 - Foreclosure cases occupy most of the tim e of the District Court. We notice, however, that the lan d foreclosed has invariably been abandoned by its former pr oprietors.
1890, April 11 - SHERIFF'S SALE: State of Kansas, Rooks Cou nty - Louisa H. Main vs J.S. McComb and Evalina McComb, hi s wife: on May 12, 1890, the SW1/4 19-7-18; and the S1/2SE1 /4 24-7-19 containing 240 acres, Reuben Delay, Sheriff. Th e property sold to W. W. Jacobs. Sherriff's Deed issued o n June 3, 1890.
1890, July 25 - Dr. Ainsworth reports that Rev. J. S. McCom b has been very sick and is better.
1890, August 22 - The covered wagons all appear to be heade d the wrong way. The drivers will have to go a long ways be fore they reach the land they are seeking, for the drough t is almost universal. They will be back in the spring, try ing to find farms to rent.
1890, September 19 - In District Court, a case of Kansas Ci ty Investment Company vs McComb was continued.
1890, September 26 - Rev. J. S. McComb and family are amon g those who will go on the Oregan excursion which leaves Pl ainville on the 8th (October).
1890, October 17 - The Oregan excursion did not leave Plain ville until Friday night. The boys ate the town out of hous e and home and had to forage the surrounding country for pr ovisions.
1891, September 25 - In the September term of District Cour t: Judgements for Plaintiffs - Sale Ordered. Kansas City In vestment Company vs J. S. McComb etal. The E1/2NE1/4 and E1 /2SE1/4 13-7-19 in Belmont township. Property sold to Edwar d E. Holmes and a Sheriff's Deed was issued on September 30 , 1891.
1890 - Rev. J. S. McComb came to Oregon City, Oregon, in 18 90 from Rooks county, Kansas, and has since made his home t here having retired from the ministry.
1925, August 21 - Rev. Jacob Shaw McComb celebrated his 90t h birthday at Oregon City, Oregon, at the home of his daugh ter.
