This Home Page is compiled by Peter Ernest Openshaw, the son of Tom Openshaw and Evelyn Myrtle Oliver.Tom Openshaw was born in Bolton, Lancashire, England on June 4 1898. He was the son of Peter Arnold Openshaw and Allena Bowler Callie.Peter Arnold Openshaw was a member of the Bolton Butcherers Association until he moved to New Zealand in 1909. Peter Arnold Openshaw was the youngest son of Thomas Openshaw and Mary Pilling. Their residence was at Halliwell Cottages in Bolton.Any information associated with this line of the Openshaw family is welcome.

Evelyn Myrtle Oliver was the daughter of Ernest Arthur Oliver (born Bairnsdale, Vic. Australia) and Ellen Catherine Cameron born at Paekakariki, New Zealand.

The parents of Ellen Catherine Cameron were Mere Pakewa Jenkins (daughter of William Jenkins), and William Cameron of Inverness, Scotland.

The parents of Mere Pakewa Jenkins were William Jenkins (a whaler, born on the Isle of Sheppy, Kent, England}, and Paeroke {a chieftainesss, the daughter of Rawiri Nukaiahu}.

Paeroke's father was Rawiri Nukaiahu, a Chief of the Puketapu Hapu (Clan) of the Te Atiawa, a Maori Tribe of New Zealand. Her mother was Pakewa who also signed the Treaty of Waitangi on board the Ariel at Port Nicholson (Wellington) in April 1840 in the presence of Henry Williams. Her brother in law, Te Manutoheroa also signed the Treaty of Waitangi a week later in Queen Charlotte Sound on board the same ship.

The genealogy of the Maori side of our history goes back over 1,000 years and is on record. Any further information on the Openshaw, Jenkins, Cameron, and Callie families are very welcome. Included in these families are many different surnames and so you are invited to make contact with me if you know any of these genealogies.
