What's in a name ???
The Orchison family originated in Scotland the areas around Kerriemuir and Glamis and adjoining rural areas of Angus/Forfar/Dundee - now spread over the four quarters of the globe. There are several variants of spelling,
viz: Orchison, Orcheson, Orchieson,Orcherson, Orcheston, Orchiston, Orchieston,Ortcheston, Ortchiston, Ortchieston,
Orchester(son), and Orchardson -to quote but a few. As many of our ancestors were illerate country folk details of birth, deaths and marriages were recorded by the local minister or registrar - hence many variations between birth and death.
The origin of the name is Orchar or Urchard, a venacular pronunciation of Urquhart - Orchison(son of Orchar) is a variant spelling of Orchardson, which in turn is a developement of Urquhartson
