| iv. | WILLIAM L.7 CULVER, b. Abt. 1862. |
Notes for WILLIAM L. CULVER: In 1865, William appears with his mother in the home of Levi Culver and Betsy Chapman Culver (parents of William Levi, husband) at the age of 2 years 9 months. He does not appear in 1870 census with Ellenor. Not known if he died in the intervening years or if he remained with the Culvers. Was referred to as "8 month old infant" in Stephen Jenks murder trial articles. |
| v. | MARY E. CULVER, b. 1865. |
Notes for MARY E. CULVER: While William, Ellenor's second husband, was in jail in Troy, NY, there were riots in Troy, NY regarding drafting to serve in the civil War. During one of the riots, William was released from jail by some of the rioters, in July, 1863. It is presumed that he went home and while home Mary E. was conceived. (per Ronald Gerard Culver). Author offers another theory: If Mary were conceived in July of 1863, she would have been born about April, 1864. On the 1865 census, Ellenor listed her as being 4 months old, therefore she couldn't be William Culver's child, as no other release was reported and at the end of the trial, William was sentenced to 6 years at Clinton (NY) Prison, where he was when his father's will was processed on August 19, 1868. She could be Andrew Dodge's child, and for the purpose of this work, we will assume that she is, as she was listed as 5 years old on the 1870 census, and William Culver was in prison when she was conceived in 1865. |
