I am researching the ancestors and descendants of the families of Charles Dillon and Margaret Maria Strausbaugh, Buchanan Valley, Adams County, Pennsylvania (1770-1860), and Ebenezer Ormsbee and Experience Clark, Mexico, Oswego County, New York (1760-1855). Charles Dillon probably descends from Jean Delon and Benitte Martin of Saulxures, Bas-Rhin, France (in present day Lorraine), but a documented link has yet to be found. Margaret Maria Strausbaugh descends from Nicholas Strausbaugh and Catherine Gerard of Lorraine, France. Nicholas Strusbaugh, Joseph Noel and Pierre Delon (son of Jean Delon) arrived together on the Princess Augusta in Philadelphia in 1736. All three settled in what was to become Adams County, Pennsylvania. Sometime in the 1760's, Nicholas Strausbaugh Jr., Andrew Noel, and John Dillon (Jean Delon) moved to the Buchanan Valley area of Adams County. The Dillon's, Noel's, and Strausbaugh's are so inextricably intertwined that their closeness cannot be by accident -- that is, they share a similar history. (Matlena Dillon, wife of Nicholas Strausbaugh Jr., was the daughter of Pierre Delon. Teresa Dillon, wife of Andrew Noel, Sr., is the probable granddaughter of Pierre Delon. Three daughters of Andrew Noel, Jr. married three sons of Charles Dillon and Margaret Maria Strausbaugh. One of those three Noel daughters (Susanna, who married to Samuel Dillon, son of Charles), was also the goddaughter of Charles and Margaret Maria. Finally, Margaret Maria Strausbaugh was the daughter of Peter Strausbaugh (son of Nicholas Jr.) and Barbara Noel, granddaughter of the immigrant, Joseph Noel . Ebenezer Ormsbee must descend from Richard Ormesby, Lincolnshire, England who immigrated to the Massachusetts Bay Colony sometime before 1639. I believe, at this time, that his parents were Ebenezer Ormsby and Hannah Cole. The ancestry of Experience Clark is not known yet except that she was living in Richmond, Cheshire County, New Hampshire when she married Ebenezer in 1787. In addition, I am trying to find out what happened to Clark Ormsby, born in 1821 in Mexico, Oswego County, New York to Oliver Ormsby and Elizabeth Hillard. His last known documented location was Ashland, Boyd County, Kentucky in 1860. He was married to Mary Wolfe and she had two more children by him after 1860 (1863 and 1866), but their documented birthplaces have never been found. She remarried in 1871 in Sugar Creek Township, Montgomery County, Indiana to Thomas Siegmund. Any information would be appreciated. I am also willing to share the information that I have. |
