Our family of Orona's consisted of eight, four boys and four girls. We were living in Pomona, California where all the children were born except for Joe, the first born, when we were deported in 1937. The train ride was long, dreary and dirty. WE arrived in El Paso, Texas and we were split-up as a family. There was not enough money for all of us to make the trip to Cuauahtemoc, Chiguagua, Where our grandparents lived. We were readmitted into the U.S. and arrived in Pomona. Then we went to Arvin, California where our two older brothers had found work at the DeGeorgio Farms. We lived in the towns of Arvin, Bakersfield, and Delano California. |
