I was born in Rochester, New York in 1943 with the name: Eugene Howard Vient. I was adopted in 1945. My biological father's name was HOWARD A. VIENT. Researching my genealogy I discovered the marriage of my parents in an old news paper at the Rochester library. This provided my mother's maiden name: CLARA LORRAIN EY. In 1983 I found relatives of my biological mother's family in Rochester, NY. Unfortunately, my mother had passed away before I had an opportunity to meet her. On the positive side, I met her family and they had a "Welcome Back into the Family" party for my family and me. It has been wonderful. We've stayed close ever since.

My grandparents were HERMAN AUGUST EY and CLARA NETTIE GOLDSMITH. They lived in Rochester. My mother was one of nine children: EUGENE HAROLD EY, MILDRED LOUISE EY, WINIFRID ELEANOR EY, HERMAN AUGUST EY, DWIGHT RAYMOND EY, THEDORE FREDRICK EY, HERBERT SPENCER EY and MARY JEANETTE EY. The EY family can be traced back to Halberstadt, Germany. The GOLDSMITH's can be traced back to Shropshire County, England.

I learned from the divorce records that my father divorced my mother in 1945 claiming that I was not his child. He passed away before I had the opportunity to meet him. He remarried and had five children: three sons and two daughters. My father was from the Rochester area. After 1945 and the divorce from my mother he changed the spelling from VIENT to VEAUNT. His grandfather, ZOEL VIENT, came to the US from Quebec, Canada and resided in Warsaw, NY. Prior to VIENT, the name was VIENS and VIEN. In France and originally in Canada the family name was JEAN. The family came to Canada from La Rochelle, France in the 1600’s

My Grandfather, BENJAMIN VIENT, was born May 19, 1883 in Warsaw, NY. He was killed in a motorcycle accident August 2, 1917 in Buffalo, NY. Benjamin had five children with his wife, MARJORIE PAINE: Virginia Joyce, Thornton Shorkly, Nadine B., Edna Avis Celeste and Lorraine. My father and Benjamin’s son, Howard A. Vient, was with a second wife, Mae Commons. There is some dispute within the family regarding the second wife. Was Benjamin really her husband or could it be some form of identity theft? However, Mae was Howard’s mother.

Recently I have been in communications the three sons of Howard and his second wife: Howard B. Veaunt (Buck) John Veaunt, and Kevin Veaunt. Buck and I went through Y-Chromosome testing to determine if we share the same father. It was confirmed that we do. Therefore, my father’s thought that I was not his child was incorrect.

As I commented before, there has been some disagreement on our grandfather do to the two women (wives). As there are no living male decedents of Benjamin's, I can't confirm our relationship other than strong conjecture. If the dissenters were correct, then we may not be members of the Vient family. To resolve this issue, I went through a second Y-Chromosome test with a known male descendent of Benjamin’s father, my great-grandfather. Again the results confirm that my half-brothers and myself are part of the Vient family.

I'd appreciate any information about these people or families that anyone can offer.
