Merite of Binghamton Dorothy A. Merite passed away peacefully on January 15, 2007, after a brief illness, at Wilson Hospital. She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Jr., New Jersey; her brothers, James Balkas, Binghamton, and Al Balkas, Johnson City; nieces, Yvonne Kourliouros, Conklin, Denise Stevens, Aurora, Colo.; several great-nieces and great-nephews. She was a lifelong resident of Binghamton. Dorothy graduated from the Wilson Hospital School of Nursing and was an employee of Wilson Hospital until her retirement. She was a member of St. Joseph's Lithuanian Church, now the Church of the Holy Trinity. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 9:00 a.m. at Bednarsky Funeral Home, Inc., 96 Glenwood Ave., Binghamton, and at 9:30 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Trinity, 346 Prospect St., Binghamton, where a Funeral Mass will be offered. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m.
