| My great Grandfather Thomas Jefferson Orsborn moved to Kansas from Jefferson Co. Iowa in 1877 with his second family: Moses Asbury, who was married to Sadia(Sarah Strayer), Mary, Ann, James Edward, Charles Perry. The family has reason to believe Thomas' first wife was a Pheobe Martin(m 2 Nov 1846, Jefferson Co. IA) it is assumed that she passed away and left him with three children. Munroe Eli Orsborn(b 1847,d????). Need more info. Nancy Ann Orsborn(b 29 May 1848, d 6 Feb 1925), m 28 Jun 1866 George Marshall Estes in IA. Four children: Harry Montegard, Eva, Clara, and Geneva (died infant), all are deceased. Geo. & Nancy are buried in the South Oak cemetery at Stuart IA. Jane Orsborn(b 1853 d ????), m 1 Feb 1877 Alpheus Moorman. No known children. Later migrated to KS and passed away, is buried with her father in the Fox cemetery. Need more info. There was a son Evan Ruggles b 1849 d 1851 in IA. I know that the surviving children lived with their father until grown-HLO, 1999. Anyone who might have historical information about this family especially the first family please contact me. NOTE: Your info may spell the name Osborn, Osburn, or Osborne. I've lived with that problem all my life except my paychecks which I insisted having the first "r". Thomas was the son of James Orsborn & Nancy Ann Ruggles. Other siblings were: James R., Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, John, Rachel, Thomas(to show his order), Wm., Martha, Ritchea, Nancy Ellen, & Matilda. The family lived in KY, OH, IL, & IA. My father(Lawrence Orsborn) in the late 1950's wrote an outline of Thomas' family(info from his father James) on which this page is based. I have gathered and added additional information. Thomas Jefferson Orsborn(born 1824 in KY, died 1899) and his wife Catherine(Mary) Elsie Joiner(born 1835 in IN died 1903) came with their family to Kansas in 1877. They homesteaded a farm in Rock Creek Township(Rock Creek Twn. was later split to create Sherman Twn. where the farm is located), Pottawatomie County. Thomas Jefferson and Catherine Elsie are buried in the Fox Cemetery near(east) Westmoreland, KS. The eldest son, Moses Asbury(b 1857 in IA, d 1934) (Aze)and his wife Sadia(Sarah Strayer) came to Kansas with them. Their two sons George and Walter along with the parents are buried at Calument(near El Reno), OK. There were three other children(died young) location unknown. Mary Orsborn(b ca 1864 in IA d before April 1896). Married Alphuies "Alf" Riley. They had four sons: Thomas, John, Jesse, and Eddie. Mary died young and is buried near Rossville, KS. or Kansas City, MO. I now have a report she is buried in NE-HLO 1999. All the sons are deceased. Ann Orsborn(b 6 August, 1865 in IA and died 25 May, 1959) she married Sylvester James Palmer. Sylvester died quite young. One daughter, Winifred. Ann then married George Rush. They had the following children: Bessie, Ellen, Etta, David, John, Irene, Goldie, and Virgil. All are deceased. Ann and George are buried in the Westmoreland KS city cemetery. James Edward Orsborn(b 12 April 1870 and died 27 July 1961) he was married to Caroline Graf 26 April 1896. Their children were: Lawrence, Leo, Rose, Henry, Edna, Alfred, Isla, Verla, Anna, Berneice, Myron, and Eldon (Only Berneice is still living--August 2009). James "Ed" and Caroline are buried in the Congregational Cemetery at Wheaton, KS. Note: Rose celebrated her 100th birthday 16 Jan 2001(with family & friends). Passed away 1 Mar 2001. Charles Perry married Tampra Ann Corkren in Alabama. Six children: Hulet, Jesse, Ann, Maude, Thomas, and Henry. All are deceased. Charles Perry and wife are buried in the cemetery at Winfield,AL. Bardo,(b 1879 d ca 1885) a younger son was born in Kansas. He died when a small child and is buried with his parents. Lousia June a daughter born ca 1856 died after 1870 in IA. Henry a son born 1859 died in infancy in IA. Thomas a son born 1869 died in infancy in IA. |
