I am researching the following family names: O'Shea, Trainor, Daly, Shore, Grogan, Purcell, Bowe on my side of the family and the following names on my wife, Bev's family: Katz, Kennedy, Linahan, Walbeck, Schick, Vallencourt, Jocelyn, Kendall. My family emigrated from Ireland to Ontario Canada in 1842 and remained there until 1871 when my great-grandfather Thomas O'Shea went to Saline Co., Kansas. The Trainor's remained in Canada. The Bowe and Grogan side emigrated to New York about 1825 and moved to Ohio in 1830. Patrick Purcell came from Ireland about 1852 to Ohio. He married Elizabeth Grogan and my grandmother and her syblings were all born there in Perry Co., Ohio after 1854. On Bev's side the John Katz emigrated from Germany in 1845 as a young boy of 8. He was with six brothers and sisters and his father their mother had died in Germany before they departed for the USA. The father died at sea the day before they arrive in New York. John was "bound out" to a farmer in Pennsylvania and at age 18 run off to Michigan. His brothers and sisters have remained a very big mystery to the family. The Schick family has a long history in Pennsylvania leading back to Germany and the Kendall's have a long line in Michigan that leads back to England. Very little is known about the Walbecks except they came from Mecklenburg, Germany and appear to have lived in New York for some years before moving to Michigan. |
