Elizabeth was first the wife of William Layton. Her maiden name is unknown. William Layton obtained some land from Thomas Keeling before he died. After the death of Layton, his widow married Thomas Cason and the land accrued to Cason due to his marriage to the Widow Layton and had nothing to do with any relationship to Thomas Keeling. The lat Tinsley Rucker misunderstood this in a conversation with Bill Cason and Boe Williams and put in print that she was the daughter of Thomas Keeling, therefore the error.
Adam Thorogood was one of the most prominent men in Lynnhaven in his generation, but his wife was a trouble maker and was always bringing charges against somebody and because of their prominence, she usually prevailed.Elizabeth Layton Cason made a remark about Adam Thorogood after his death that it was hard to get him to pay his bills and the widow Thorogood brought charges against her and Elizabeth had to apologize to her before the congregation in church, but there was no legal charges against her nor did she break an laws.Just guilty of gossip and possibly made a correct statement because Adam Thorogood didn't think the laws applied to him.
Thomas Cason did obtain ownership of the property of William Layton via marrying the widow, but he also become responsible for his debts and had a judgement brought against him for 500 pounds of tobacco owed by William Layton.
After Thomas Cason died in 1651, Elizabeth married John Stratton and after his death, she married John Lawrence.Women were scarce in colonial Virginia.
Thomas Cason was upper middle class, literate, vestryman and church warden and in addition to owning land, etc at his death he also owned several indentured servants.

In Hertfordshire England in the late 1500's there were at least two marriages between Thorogood men and Cason women and another one in the early 1600's.It is very possible (but I hasten to add, not proof) that Thomas Cason and Adam Thorogood were cousins!
