As I am sure everyone else has found, researching my own roots has been both challenging and very worthwhile. Through my research I have come to appreciate, and in a way to know my ancestors. It is as though they talk to me from the pages of my notes and from typing them into the family tree program. I see shadows of smiles and distant whisperings from those who have been gone so many years. Images in bits and pieces float in the corners of my consciousness. I know that I am not alone at the key board, library, archives, or cemeteries. They are all watching over my shoulder and this comforts me well. |
