Jacob Pruski and Eva Blych Family of Texas

The "Verzeichniss" for 12 May 1855 in Hamburg, Germany states that the "Dampf-Schiffe" (steam ship) Hammonia, Captain John Paulsen, was going to New York by way of Hull and Liverpool. Listed as passenager were Jacob Pruski, age34. Eva Pruski, age26, Ann Kawiczick (sp?), age16, and Thomas Pruski, age 2. These passenagers were from Oppeln, Prussia and Jacob is listed as a farmer. There are no records of this ship arriving in New York in 1855. Then 9 September 1865, Jacob filed his Declaration of Intention in DeWitt County, Texas: "…Jacob Pruski…he was born July 1821 in Kindgom of Prussia, that he arrived at the port of Galvestion, Texas in July 1856…."

Originally Jacob Pruski and Eva Biela settled in Panna Maria, Karnes County, Texas, but by 1870 they were living in DeWitt County, Texas and by 1900 some of the family moved to Wilson County, Texas. Jacob and Eva had 7 children:

Jacob died 30 August 1896 and is buried as Jacob Pruskie at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cemetary, Cestohowa, Karnes County, Texas. Eva died 5 September 1893 and is also buried at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cemetary as Eva Pruskie.

National Archives files (M323) shows that Private Jacob Prusky was inducted in the Confederate Army. Between 1860 and 1861, Private Prusky was assigned to Company K, 2d Texas Infantry, Confederate Army. This unit is also know as 1st INF, Moore's Regiment, Galveston Regiment, Van Dorm Regiment. Records are not clear, but it appears that Private Jacob Prusky was only in the military for 9 months.
