I am researching the Wallers and Stroup(e)s of Wythe County, Virginia. I am particularly interested in finding out more on the Stroup(e) side of my family, specifically what became of my great-grandmother, Biddie C. Stroup(e), born June 11, 1887 in Wythe County, Virginia.
Biddie was born to Charles H. and Paulina Grubb Stroup. She married James Walter Stroup(e) on April 18, 1906 in Wythe County, VA. J.W. was her first cousin. Together, they had the following children: Claude Everett Stroupe, Lawrence Stroupe, Hobart Stroupe, Clarke Walter Stroupe, and my grandmother, Gladys Geneva Stroupe.
On the Waller side, I am specifically looking for the father of Anthony Waller, born in England in about 1808. Anthony married Rebecca Pearman in Wythe County in 1832. Together they had John Waller, born 1830-1834 in Virginia, and probably other children. John Waller married Elizabeth Porter in Surry County, North Carolina in 1862, and I find them back in Wythe County in subsequent censuses. John and Elizabeth had the following children: Thomas Waller, Mary Waller, Andy Waller, Margaret Waller, Daniel Sheffey Waller, George Washington Waller, my great-grandfather, James Robert Waller, and maybe others. James Robert married Rissie Ann Dixon (or Billings). They had the following children, all born in Wythe County, VA to the best of my knowledge: Maude Waller, Ethel Waller, Rissie Gladiola Waller, Roy Waller, Ralph Waller, Mildred Ruth Waller, Homer Waller, and my grandfather, Malcolm Monroe Waller. After Rissie's death, James Robert moved to the McDowell County, West Virginia coalfields in the 1910's.
Other surnames I am researching heavily at this time: Otey, James, Combs, Webb, Lemon, Broom, Cook(e), and Honaker.
All the surnames that are included in my research thus far are really too numerous to mention, but a few are: Ball, Grubb,Holmes, Honaker, Harrold, Hubbard, Huff, Pearman, Robbins, Sarrett, and Stewart.
Understand that the ancestor trees that you can access at the bottom of the page are just a little bit of the information I have. If you'd like a little more info. on one of the ancestors or a surname mentioned, I'd be happy to see if I have anything, just email me.
I welcome any additional information on anyone in my tree, so don't hesitate to contact me. Thanks!
