John Sexton is listed on Captain E. A. Powell's Company A, Tuscaloosa Prison Guards, organized at Tuscaloosa, AL, and mustered into service on 13 December 1861. Company was disbanded about 1862.

      3. James2 Sexton (Thomas1) was born Abt. 1826 in AL, and died 08 Mar 1863 in Chattanooga, TN (Source: Hendrix, Beasey S. Jr. Tuskaloosa's Own, A Short History and Muster Roll of Confederate Units, from Tuskaloosa Co., Alabama, p. 45.). He married Quensady Mattox 08 Jul 1847 in Tuscaloosa Co., AL. She was born Abt. 1833 in GA, and died Aft. 1880.

Notes for James Sexton:
James is listed on Roll of Co. G, 41st Regt. AL Infantry organized at Tuscaloosa, AL, April 1862. He died at Chattanooga, TN 3 March 1863. I've found no pension application from his wife.

1855 Tuscaloosa Co., AL, census index by Pauline Jones Gandrud - 2 males under 21, 1 male over 21, 1 female over 21 (p. 38).

1860 Tuscaloosa Co., AL census, Western Dist. HH 674 James 31 farm manager AL, Queen 29 GA, Silas 11 AL, Wm. T. 6 AL, Martha 3 AL.

Patent issued to James Sexton on 2 July 1860 for the NE1/4NW1/4 sec. 3, T. 20 S., R. 11 W., 40 acres. This property was later mortgaged by Ellen Sexton (Deed Book 7, p. 428). It was also included in the real estate sold at public auction to settle her estate (E2NW4 sec. 3, T. 20, R. 11). Land purchased by Brown L. Bigham, husband of Mahaley Sexton. Need to get dates. According to information from David Sexton, Silas and family are listed on 1880 Marion Co., AL, census (Beat 8). Mother Queensada is listed in household.

Following description of Silas Sexton from letter received from Mollie Stinson, Hillsboro, TX 76645 (Sept. 1999) who received the information from Opaleen Sexton Hawkins: "This Silas G. was a peaceful man until drunk then he became belligerent and would provoke a fight. He did get drunk and provoke a fight and had his intestines carved out. They fell on the ground and were put back in. Then he took pneumonia and died. (Unknown how much time elapsed.) William Curtis took over. (Dad said William Curtis was 10, but if the dates are correct he was nearly nine.) At any rate W. C. did not go to school and could not read or write, but had the first radio, refrigerator, etc.! Aunt Rosa read everything in the newspaper to him so he was always aware of everything going on."
