Byrd Logan enlisted on May 10, 1862 in Co. F., 41 ALA Reg. Age given as 30. He was wounded at Murphreesboro, TN, on Jan 2, 1863, and discharged in 1863.

Information from another researcher indicates that he may be buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, Stough Comm, on Hwy 43, 5 miles west of Fayette. He may have had a daughter named Rebecca who married a Stoker who was a half-brother to a Sexton family. (Inf. from Mrs. Morris Barnes, 5664 10th Ave. South, Birmingham, AL 35222, in 1990.)

"Alabama 1907 Census of Confederate Soldiers, Tuscaloosa, Alabama" lists Thomas Sexton, address Cottondale, AL, born 14 Apr 1838, Yellow Creek, Tuscaloosa Co., AL. Entered service as a private Nov 1861, Northport, AL, 43rd AL Co. C, and continued until Apr 1865.

Confederate service records, State Archives, Montgomery, AL, shows Thomas C. Sexton, Pvt. Co. D, 43rd, Reg., enlisted Northport, Mar 1862, discharged May 12, 1865. Wounded in left thigh at Battle of Duny Bluff, VA. Also had heart disease. His pension roll no. was 19337. On 17 Aug. 1909 his classification was changed from 4th Class Pension to 3rd Class. He had lost the use of "limb" caused by wound received during war.

His property on 16 June 1900 consisted of 1 horse or mule - value $50, 2 cattle - value $15, household and kitchen furniture - $25, mechanical and farming tools - $1.00.

On 13 March 1894, he made a statement before O. L. McKinstry, Pickens County, AL, concerning his service. On papers dated 23 June 1898 his name is given as Thomas "S." Sexton.

Jones and Rogers Funeral Home Records, Tuscaloosa County Public Library, Tuscaloosa Co., AL - Tom Sexton age 75 died on 12 Sept 1912, Socktown (Cottondale) of Bright's Disease. Socktown also known as Mill Village.

Received "Certificate of Failure to Find Record" when death certificate ordered from Vital Statistics in March 1990.

Notes for Rebecca C. Logan:
Sept. 28, 1863, Rebecka Goree and Malinda Logan presented letters of dismission from Friendship Church and were received at Bethabera Church, Tusc. Co., AL. on Sept. 2, 1864. Charges were brought against Rebecka Goree for unforgivable reports on Sept. 24, 1864. On Dec. 24, 1864, "Rebecka Goree now Sexton" was excluded from the church for dancing.

1860 census lists Rebecca C. age 20, born AL, as wife of John C. Goree, age 26, born AL. Children in household were Mary E., age 2, born AL; Jane age 4 months, born AL. It is assumed that this is the same Jane Goree found in the household of Thomas C. Sexton on the 1870 Tuscaloosa Co., AL census.

John C. Goree enlisted on March 13, 1862, and was killed at Chickamauga on Sept 22, 1863.


Notes for Nancy Ann Estis:
Thomas "T." Sexton and Nancy Ann Estes were married at the residence of J. H. Estis in Pickens Co., AL.

Information from Confederate Pension Application - Thomas died 12 Sept 1912. His pension roll number Tuscaloosa 19337. Her statement dated 1 Oct 1912. Nancy sent in request to have address changed to McConnell's, AL, Tuscaloosa County, c/o J. M. Pinkerton on dated 9 Feb. 1915. She stated that he served in Company C, 43rd AL Regiment.

T. B. Sexton Passes After Long Illness--T.B. [Thomas Byrd] Sexton, 66, prominent farmer of the Brownville community, died Monday night at his home after an illness lasting a year. He had been a lifelong resident of this county.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Mary [Loftis] Sexton, three sons, Clyde, Dan, and Findley Sexton, five daughters, Mrs. Effie Sullivan, Mrs. Erline Adams, Mrs. Malissa Johnson, Mrs. Edith Otts and Miss Juanita Sexton.
Funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning from the Tabernacle church on the Upper Columbus road with burial in the church cemetery by Jones and Spigener.

Mrs. Mary Sexton, 81, Buried in Brownville-Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Loftis Sexton, 81, who died Sunday at her home, 2608 17th Ave., Northport, were held at 2 p.m. today at the Tabernacle Church at Brownville. Burial was in the church cemetery by Jones and Spigener. Pallbearers were Francis Wicker, L. M. Crossland, Harvey McDaniels, Fred Williams, W. E. Gillett and Clarence Simpson. Surviving Mrs. Sexton are two daughters, Mrs. Elmer Otts, Northport, and Mrs. W. D. Sullivan, Brownville; three sons, Clyde Sexton, Brownville; Dan Sexton, Port St. Jo, Fla., and Findley Sexton, Louisville, Ky.; a brother Andrew Loftis, Prattville, and 25 grandchildren.
