Notes for F
RIEDRICH (JOHANN HEINRICH) OTTMER:
Johann Friedrich is believed to have been born in Lutters which is a small village in the Duchy of Braunschweig, Prussia (Germany) on February 12, 1822. This comes from some family stories but is not documented anywhere. However, there were many Ottmer individuals living in the city of Brunswick at the time of the immigration; thus we cannot rule out that Friedrich and family did not come from the city. Birth date and birth location are known from the Texas census records and his emigration records.

He was married and had 5 children while living in Prussia; he and his family emigrated to Texas in 1867. They entered the US at the Port of New Orleans on Oct 21, 1867.

Friedrich has a first initial of "J" on several documents. His full name was Johann Friedrich Heinrich Ottmer. The Johan was a name often assigned to the child when the baptism takes place. It is formal in the church but never used after that. German families would use the second name which in this case is Friedrich. I have used Friedrich throughout this book rather than Johann.
