Notes for ORSON PETER HILL: Occupation - Farmer. Orson farmed all his life. Orson's obituary: Orson Peter Hill was born March 21, 1913 in Creston, the son of Oscar and Olive (Ravnaas) Hill. He died Monday, Jaunary 28, 1991 at Rochelle Healthcare Center East. He married Ellen Jentzsch on October 5, 1946 at the Calvary Lutheran Church in rural Lee. He was a lifelong farmer in the Creston area and actively served many years on the Ogle County Agricultural Extension Council and pioneered in the "minimum tillage" practice of farming. He was an innovator and consultant to major farm machinery manufacturers in the development of planting and harvesting equipment. HE was also a lifelong member of the Calvary Lutheran Church in rural Lee; a member of the Sons of Norway - Nordeka Lodge No. 518; a member of the Fox Valley Norwegian American Sesquicentennial Association and participated in the 1975 Royal visit of his majesty King Olav V of Norway. He had served on the University of Illinois Citizens’ Committee; was a member of the Dekalb County Farm Bureau; and a member of the Flagg Township Historical Society of Ogle County; and a member of the Chicago Farmers Club. Survivors include his wife, Ellen, of rural Creston; three sons; Frederick Hill of rural Rochelle; Roger and Clay Hill of Orlando, Florida; one daughter, Lois of Bali, Indonesia; four grandchildren: Jennifer, Heather and Charles Hill of rural Rochelle, and Eric Hill of Orlando, Florida; three brothers: Arvene Hill of Creston, Carl Hill of rural Rochelle, and Donald Hill of Ashton; two sisters: Ann Ohlinger of rural Rochelle, and Ruth Cornils of Sterling; and many nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Oscar and Olive Hill. Memorials have been established at to the Calvary Lutheran Church and the Parkinsons Disease Foundation. The family invites everyone to the church parlors for refreshments and fellowship following the Memorial Service. |

Notes for ARVENE RAVNASS HILL: Occupation - Farmer. Arvene’s obituary: Arvene was born in Ogle County on January 5, 1915, the second son of Oscar and Olive Hill. He was baptized and confirmed at Calvary Lutheran Church where he was a life long member, serving as Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and teacher. He married Murial G. Erickson on June 28, 1947. To this union three children were born: Leslie C. Hill, Judith Stecker, and Thomas Hill. Arvene spent his entire life in the area south of Creston where his main interests were tilling the soil and feeding the cattle. He served on many community projects including Creston School Board, Rochelle Township High School Board, Dement Township Supervisor, Ogle County Board of Review, and Chairman of the Rochelle Community Hospital Board. Arvene is survived by his wife, Murial, and by his sons. Also surviving are seven grand-children and one great grand-son, two sisters, Ann and Ruth and two brothers, Carl and Don. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Orson. Blessed be his memory. We express our grateful thanks to all who supported us these past six years through prayer and kindness. Howard's obituary from The Rochelle News-Leader, November 11, 1990: Howard Brett 81, of Rockford, died at 1:15 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 5 in his home. He was born March 21, 1909 in Britt, Iowa, the son of Peter and Mary Ellen Dick Brett. A Rockford resident since 1958, Brett came from Chadwick and married Lillian Hill on Aug. 4, 1934 in Creston. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Northern Illinois University and Masters Degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana, 1941. He was a science teacher at Lincoln Jr. High in Rockford from 1958 to his retirement in 1973. Previously, he had been a teacher in the Creston Schools for six years and superintendent for two years; superintendent in Caldonia for two years; superintendent for 16 years in Chadwick School system. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 867 in Chadwick; and a member of the Freeport Consistory and Tebala Shrine. Survivors include his wife, Lillian; two brothers, Clifford Brett of Rochelle and Marvin Brett of San Diego, CA.; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, William, Fred, Lee and Floyd; and one sister, Beulah Earp. Funeral services will be held at 3p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8, at the Fred C. Olson Mortuary, 1001 2nd Ave., Rockford, with Mr. Richard Wedel officiating. Entombment will be in Sunset Mausoleum. Friends may call from 7-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 7, and from 2p.m. to service time on Thursday at the mortuary. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or the charity of the donors choice. |
