Isaac Wilson Blackwelder (b. November 20, 1833, d. April 05, 1922)
Notes for Isaac Wilson Blackwelder:Some of the information on Isaac came from Uncle Monroe Blackwelder, brother of Thomas Marvin Blackwelder in the late 1960s interview with him.He remembered visting one time with his uncle Isaac and Uncle David in Iredell Co. when he was a child.When Isaac first moved to Iredell county, they lived in the Statesville area as several of their children are buried in that area.
He appears in the 1880 Iredell census as follows:

In the early 1970s, we visited with Ginny Blackwelder of Mooresville, NC.she is a descendant of Jacob Blackwelder, oldest brother of Paul and was close friends with Isaacs grandson through James Vance.she had visited James Vance's son and copied the following information from a family bible of Isaac Wilson:

In other words, Isaac and Nellie outlived all but 2 of their 9 children.Ginny did not know about Julia C. but thinks she died in Hendersonville, NC or is buried there.She didn't know anything about her...but thinks she married a Ferguson.
Only Laura Jane and James Vance lived to marry and raise families.Children of both of these were still living in the Mooresville area in the 1960s and 1970s.
We interviewed Robert L. Blackwelder, son of Laura Jane.She had married Jefferson W. Blackwelder...was a cousin of some sort.Robert died shortly after we visted him, but while there he showed us an old tin type of Isaac and Nellie and some of their family.
While graveyard hunting one day, we found mary Libby and William buried at Gays Chapel Baptist Church in the Cool Springs community off of Hwy 64 E outside of Statesville.Buried beside Mary L., is a stone marked Easter, wife of L. Hagler, died in 1873 (1893-stone couldn't be read well) about the age of 69 years.We think that Easter Blackwelder married John Thornburg after the death of Elizabeth, but if we are not correct, could Esther Blackwelder have married a Hagler around the same time her brother's Isaac and David married Haglers????
Easter (Esther) was a very popular German name, so it may have been someone related to Nellie Hagler.There is no doubt that Isaac and Nellie lived in that area for awhile since two of their children plus it appears the unnamed infant are all buried at Gays chapel.While visiting the Gays Chapel, we talked to the Historian of the church and he advised us that Gays Chapel was a meeting house prior to 1885.The Baptist, Methodist and Presby all met there.He said he had been told that there are 3 unmarked Blackwelder graves beside the 3 children of Isaac & Nellie.It could be that some of them are David's children.
