3. ELIJAH SMITH² OWENS (ELIJAH¹)⁷ was born 20 Mar 1808 in Milledgeville,Baldwin,Ga⁷. He married REBECCA EUGENIA C. SANDERS⁷ 18 Sep 1832 in Houston Co., Al ⁸, daughter of ROBERT SANDERS and MARTHA WESTBURY.

2. After marriage, they remained in Russell Co,Al until late 1850's.
After the death of his mother and her sister Louisa, they moved to
Pike Co,.Al..

3. The book Notable Men says he was admitted to bar at age 22 and
practiced in Perry for 4 years. That he then moved to Ft. Mitchell,
Russell Co, Al which he helped build and from their fought in the Creek
Indian War in 1836. After 1856, He lived on his Plantation on rich river
land in Pike Co.

4. REV. JAMES NEHEMIAH² OWENS (ELIJAH¹)⁹ was born 16 Mar 1810 in Baldwin Co. Ga⁹, and died 26 Apr 1888 in Loflin, Al⁹. He married (1) MATILDA K. DUPREE⁹ in Houston Co., Al ¹⁰. She died Abt. Nov 1889 ¹¹. He married (2) LOUISA SANDERS¹¹ 2 Jun 1835 in Houston Co., Al ¹², daughter of ROBERT SANDERS and MARTHA WESTBURY. She was born Abt. 1817 ¹³, and died 8 May 1855 in Loflin, Russell Co. Al¹³. He married (3) LOUVENIA EUBANKS¹³ 1856, daughter of REV. LEONIDES EUBANKS.

2. He died at his home in Loflin,Al

3. He is buried beside his wife Louisa and his Mother Nancy Howard
at Anthony Chapel (Green Head) at Loflin Al.

4. James N. was licensed to preach by the Quarterly Conference of
of the Methodist Church Aug 20, 1853 in what was known as the Glennville
circuit. He was ordained deacon in 1857 by Bishop Early in Selma, Al;
and then to elder in 1863 by Bjishop Early at Columbus, Ga. He was
minister at Anthony Chapel for 35 years.

5. He served his county in many capacities, having been Tax Assessor for
14 years.

6. He was quite wealthy.

7. He died of pneumonia which he contracted after long exposure in the
wet and cold while out on a church mission to help others.

8. He is said to have many descendents in Fl, Ga, Al, Tx, Ohio, and New Jersey.

9 He acquired his land near Loflin, Alabama in the late 1850's
