| Might we never forget that into this priceless fabric is woven the lives of father, and mother, four grand parents, eight great grandparents, sixteen great great grandparents and thirty two ancestors of the fifth generation. Likewise those thirty two ancestors each has thirty two ancestors of the fifth generation. This means that you and I each had thirty two times thirty two, or one thousand twenty four ancestors of the tenth generation. That is if none had intermarried, This way each would have had more than a thousand thousand ancestors in the twentieth and a million million in the fortieth generation, more than five hundred times the number now alive. Counting twenty five years to a generation, forty of them take us back one thousand years. This is but yesterday in the far reaches of the past. Charles M. Himel |
