My Owens line can be traced to Barnwell/Beaufort districts in South Carolina, previously known as Orangeburg District.Solomon Owens, b c1740, first appears in Orangeburg records in 1774.He may be the same Solomon Owens in Craven County, NC, in 1769, who sold/traded/lost 200 acres to Jacob Blount in that county in 1775.Solomon's eldest son Stephen died in 1824, and the division of property according to Stephen's will was disrupted by suits brought against the estate by Stephen's brothers William and John, with whom Stephen evidently carried outstanding debts.Shortly after Stephen's death his eldest son Solomon (b 1794) moved to Gadsden County, Fl In Gadsden county Solomon's eldest son James G. Owens married Lucinda Jane Mitchell, and they had four children born in Gadsden County. In 1860 the family moved to Walton Co, FL.In 1869 the eldest son, William Mitchell Owens, moved to Greene County, AL, and later in the 1870's the youngest son Hugh Lafayette Owens, followed. In Greene County Hugh married Margaret Kate Grantham, and they had five children, born in the commuinty of Pleasant Ridge. The eldest, Everett Clarence Owens, was my grandfather. | The Scott W.
