Find Family

OYSTON's of East Yorkshire, England

Updated June 10, 2001

Hi my name is Tim,

I have been trying to trace my family tree for the last two years. I have managed to get back as far as the middle of the 17th century, and have found many various links to other surnames names through marriage.

My family seems to have kept its roots mainly in the East riding of Yorkshire, with a few moving to West Yorkshire and Lancershire.

There have been many suggestions that the original link is Norway. The name oyston in this country is a first name rather than a surname. During my searching I have also noticed that there is a large population of Oyston’s further north towards County Durham, but I have not found any links to indicate that my family came from that region.

As this is a strange surname I would be interested in hearing from any one whom has this surname or who is also researching this name or who have come across it in their research.
