Reuben Weed (son of Samuel J. Weed and Sarah Richardson) was born October 16, 1740 in Derby, New Haven, CT., and died Bef. November 11, 1791 in Abbeville Co., SC.. He married Martha Messor on 1759 in New York.

Reuben Weed Will proven 09-01-1782, Abbeville Dist., SC. Vol. 1. Will Book 1 p 88, and Will of Martha, his widow, dated 09-22-1809. In his will, Reuben listed his wife, Martha, his sons: Reuben, Jr. b 1760, and m: Elizabeth Dale, Andrew, b 03-11-1764 and Nathaniel b 1767, d 03-16-1818, m: Elizabeth Wiseman in Laurens Co., SC and his daughter, Martha. His daughter, Lucretia was married to John Taylor Mitchell at some point in time and listed as a witness.
Daughter Martha married, but unk to whom: Their children, James, John, Reuben and 3 unk dauthters. Martha died by 1809 and was not mentioned in her mothers Will. Of the daughters, 1 married James Cochran and 1 married Andrew Jones.
All of the sons as well as Reuben, Sr were Rev. Soldiers.....from researcher, Billie.

Reuben, Nathaniel and John Weed left CT/NY and migrated to South Carolina. The three brothers left during the final stage of the great southern migration from NY and PA. They were lured by cheap land and came south to western MD and the valleys of VA and Piedmont Carolinas.

The three brothers came in 1774 with Reuben and Martha's three sons, Reuben II, Andrew and Nathaniel II and daughter, Martha. They cmae from the Highlnads on the Hudson River in NY near Newburg.

Reuben Weed is shown on the 1790 Census as a planter and owning slaves.

Reuben Weed, I, his sons, Andrew and Reuben II and Nathaniel I took active roles in the Revolutionary War in SC.

Reuben Weed, I was a Private and aide to General Pickens.

Reuben I and Martha Messor Weed lived the remainder of their lives in Long Cane.
