and I've used it hundred's of times  delicious!

Buttercup Cake   (This recipe is exactly how she wrote it)

 

1½ cup Gran Sugar

½ cup butter or (crisco)

2 eggs  beat altogether until creamy

Add alternativly 1 cup buttermilk

2½ cup flour sifted with

1 teasp B. Powder

½  tsp B. Soda                Makes 2 - 8 " pans

½  tsp Salt

1 tsp vanilla                       Bake at 350 deg  about 30 min

 

I make extra crumbs to put on top                     45 min

1/3 cup flour

1 tabl B. Sugar

1 tbs Wh. Sugar

butter size of a walnut

mix together sprinkle on top of cakes.  Sometimes I make 3 cup cakes,  the pans

get rather full

 

I sometimes add fresh blueberries or cherries to the batter.

 

 

 

Pumpkin Pie

 

2 cups pumpkin

1 cup white sugar

2 cups milk (scalded)

2 tablesp cornstarch (level)

Dash of Salt

3 eggs  beat in with sugar and pumpkin

sprinkle top with cinnamon

 

I beat white of one of these eggs and add last, that rises to the top makes it

brown better.

 

makes 1 9 or 10" custard

Applesauce Cake

 

1/3 cup spry

3/4 teasp. salt

1/2 teasp. nutmeg

1/2 teasp. cloves

1 teasp. cinnamon

1 teasp. baking soda

3/4 cup sugar

1/2 cup raisins (chopped)

1 cup hot applesauce

 

 Combine spry, salt, spices and soda.  Add sugar gradually and cream until

fluffy.  Add raisins and mix well.  Add small amounts of flour and applesauce

alternately, beating after each addition.

 

 

 

Arline Arner’s Chocolate Cake

 

2 cups brown sugar (almost 1 lb.)

½ cup spry

2 eggs

½ tsp. Salt

2 tsp. Soda

2 cups flour

½ tsp. Cream tarter

½ cup buttermilk

½ cup cocoa mixed with boiling water to a paste,

      add to batter with milk and flour then

      add last ½ cup boiling water.

 

 

Boiled Icing

 

Put in sauce pan 1 cup gran. Sugar

1/3 cup milk

1½ oz choc.

2 tablespoons spry

1 tbs. Butter

¼ tsp. Salt

 

Boil 3 minutes, add 1 tsp. Vanilla, cool, beat until thick in electric blender.

 

 

 

Mary’s Strawberry Pie

 

1½ cups berries

1 cup sugar

2 cups water

 

Boil 15 minutes, then strain thru sieve press fruit thru.

 

Let come to a boil thicken with 2 rounded tablespoons cornstarch, lump of butter.  Let cool.  Place berries in baked pie shell heaping full, pour sauce over berries.

 

Serve with whipped cream.

 

 

Pork Roast with Spicy Sauce

 

Loin of Pork  about 3-4 pounds

 

½ cup chili sauce                   2 tsp lemon juice

1 tsp dry mustard                   2 tsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tsp salt                          ½ cup water

¼ tsp pepper                        1 onion diced

 

Combine ingredients and pour over pork,

Roast in moderate oven 350 deg until 185f

 

 

Corn Fritters

 

8 to 10 ears of grated corn

3 eggs

1 tbs of flour

½ tsp salt

1 tbs sugar

 

Baked Corn

 

1 can corn

3 eggs (yolks mix with corn)

1 tbs sugar

1 tsp salt

1½ cups milk

1 tbs flour

pepper

 

beat whites of eggs – add last

Bake 1½ hours

Set in pan of water.

 

Hamburger Barbecues

 

1 lb. Hamburger

1 onion

½ cup ketchup

½ cup chili sauce

1 tbs mustard

salt to taste

1 tsp sugar

 

Combine everything in skillet and simmer about 20 minutes.

Serve in hamburger rolls.  (12 people)

 

 

Cape Cod Fish Cakes

 

2 cups mashed potatoes

1 cup shredded codfish

2 tbs. milk

1 egg

1 tbs. Margarine

¼ tsp. Pepper

1 cup dry bread crumbs

 

Start the fish cakes at night as follows.  Prepare the mashed potatoes while cooking dinner.  Then scald the codfish with boiling water and drain.  Combine the potatoes, codfish, milk, the beaten egg, margarine and pepper, and form into flat round cakes.  Roll in bread crumbs, fry in enough fat to barley cover the bottom of the pan.

 

Macaroni Salad Dressing

 

2 eggs

6 tbs. Sugar

1 tbs. Flour

½ tsp. Salt

¾ tsp. Dry mustard

¾ cup vinegar

1 cup water

 

Boil until thick, then cool before pouring on macaroni

 

 

Deep Dish Peach Pie

 

6 peaches peeled 7 halved

¾ cup sugar

4 tbs. Shortening

1 ½ cups pastry flour

2 tbs. Sugar

1 ½ tsp. B.Powder

½ tsp. Salt

½ cup milk

 

Place peaches in casserole, sprinkle with sugar. Cut shortening into mixed and sifted ingredients to the consistency of course meal.  Add mild and mix until just blended.  Turn on floured board fold over three times, pat to size of casserole – place on fruit.  Bake in moderate oven 375 deg. For 1 hour or until crust is done.   4 servings

 

 

Waffles

 

2 cups flour

3 eggs

3 tsp. B. Powder

¼ tsp. Salt

1 tbs. Sugar

1 ½ cups milk

3 tbs. Butter

 

add egg whites last.
