Simpsons from South Carolina to Louisiana Updated August 7, 2001

The Simpson Clan has been traced back to the State of Georgia with the birth of Alfred Simpson in 1818. We are still searching for his father whom he reports in a census record to be in the state of South Carolina. His mother apparently was born in Georgia. On the 4th of August, l840, Alfred married Mary Langley in the County of Talbot, Georgia. Their first son, Macon was born in Georgia and the family moved on to Russell County, Alabama where other children Alfred A., William, Frances, John Andrew, Mary, Amanda, Isaiah and Melissa were born. Mary died and is reported to be buried in either Hatchacubba or Seale Alabama. Alfred had served in The Civil War and then took his family across Alabama, and Mississippi to the State of Louisiana. Some say he was headed to Texas but that State had flooded so he landed in Union Parish, La and there he stayed.My grnadfather, John Russell told the story to my mother about the trip which took about 3 years. The families in the wagon train traveled in the winter and stopped along the way to work and gather up supplies for the next leg of the journey. There are many family connections scattered over the South and as many as can try to return to Farmerville for the annual reunion which is held at Mt. Ararat Baptist church the Sunday before Labor Day each year.
