Pickens County, to wit:
     On this the 28 day of May 1863 personally appeared before me the subscriber,
a justice of the pease in County and State aforesaid, Mrs. Nancy D. McGahey, who,
after being duly sworn according to law, deposith Says that She is the wife of James
J. McGahey deceased, who was a private in Capt. Belsher's Company ("H") 5th Regt.
Alabama Volunteers, commanded by Col. Hobson in the service of the Confederate
States, in the present war with the United States, thus, the said James J. McGahey
entered the Service at Antioch in Pickens County, in the State of Alabama on or
about the 27th day of March 1862 and died of disease on or about the 19th day of
September 1862 while a prisoner in the hands of the Enemy, at Frederick City, Md.,
leaving herself, (the wife) entitled to receive the claim for her husband's Services;
that Nancy D. McGahey makes the deposition for the purposes of obtaining from
the Government of the Confederate States whatever may have been due the said
Jas. J. McGahey at the time of his death for pay, bounty or other allowances for his
services as private aforesaid.

Said on the Same day and year aforesaid, also appeared before me, a Justice of the
peace as aforesaid Jesse Tate who is well known to me and whom I certify to be a
person of sincerity and credibility, who, having been duly Sworn says that he is well
acquainted with the claimant, Nancy D. McGahey and also well knew for (10) years
James J. McGahey, the deceased Soldier herein mentioned and that the Statement
made under oath by Said Nancy D McGahey, the claimant, as to to her relationship
to the Said deceased Soldier, is true and correct in every particular, to the best of his
knowledge and belief, and that he, the Said Jesse Tate is wholly disinterested.

     I hereby certify that Nancy D. McGahey, the claimant, Thos. S. Dobson, before
whom this affidavit of Nancy D. McGahey as claimant and Jesse Tate as
disinterested witness appear to have been made and who's genuine signature is
subscribed hereto, was at the time of making and signing the same, a Justice of the
peace in and for the County and State aforesaid, duly ????? and Sworn and to all
whose official acts as Such full faith and credit is and ought to be given as well in
Courts of Justice as thruout.
     In testimony whereof, I have hence to Set my hand and affixed the seal of
Pickens County Court, this 29 day of May Eighteen hundred and sixty three.
