| Family names being researched include: Barns/Barnes; Aaron Barns came from Sharon, CT, to Mentz/Aurelius, NY, in 1816 with wife Martha (Eggleston) and children: Eleanor, Julia Anna, Jeffrey Samuel, Thomas, Horace, Sarah, and Sephronia. Thomas and wife brought seven children from Seneca Falls, Seneca Co., NY, to Jackson, MI, in 1843. Jeffrey eventually settled in Branch Co., MI. Horace lived near Galen, NY. Sarah and husband Hampton Dexter Granger settled in Ingham Co., MI. -Blysse/Bliss; Thomas Blysse came to America from England in 1636. Thomas was one of founders of Rehoboth, MA, a religious colony. Descendant Samuel brought his family out of Rehoboth and eventually to Gilboa, NY. Samuel’s son Calvin Hall Bliss settled in Galen, NY, in 1833 and then Farmville, VA, in 1869. Calvin's son Sidney Bliss brought his family to Calhoun Co., MI, in 1866. -Cassner/Casner/Castner; William Cassner was born in NJ in 1806. In 1830 he married Sarah Welter, born in Morris Co., NJ. They later settled at Milo, NY. They brought their family to Ovid, MI, in about 1855 and began spelling their name Castner. -Duncan; William Duncan was a weaver in Paisley, Scotland; was husband of Mary Wilson, who was daughter of Alexander and Mary (McNab) Wilson of Paisley, and sister of Alexander Wilson the Ornithologist of Philadelphia. Eight children included Isabella Duncan, who came to America in 1797 and married John McNelly. -Eggleston; Martha Eggleston, wife of Aaron Barns, was a daughter of Samuel IV and Hester (Buck) Eggleston of northeast Dutchess Co., NY. -Hood; George, William, John, Robert, Andrew, Elizabeth and Mary were children of John Hood, Sr., of Turbot Twp., Northumberland Co., PA. After John, Sr. died, the Hoods emigrated to Romulus/Fayette, NY. Robert's son James married Catharine McNelly. They moved to Novi, MI, in 1835. -Hubbard; Helen M. Hubbard, born Moravia, NY, married Sidney E. Bliss of Galen, NY; and settled in Calhoun Co., MI, with family in 1866. Her parents were Adam Frink Hubbard and Mary (McClean). Adam was a son of Thomas and Silence (Bartlett) Hubbart of Russia, Herkimer Co., NY. -Keys/Keyes; Pownall, Vermont, to E. Bloomfield, NY, from where Lyman Keys brought his family to Cambria, NY. Son Orlando married Lucinda Shook; their family came to Michigan in1851; there, began spelling name Keyes, pronounced “Kies.” -McClean; Mary McClean of NY was wife of Adam F. Hubbard, and was Helen M. Hubbard's mother. Mary's parents were William and Susan McClean of Moravia, NY. -McNelly/McAnnelly; John McNelly came from Ireland to Pennsylvania,1798; there, married Isabella Duncan of Paisley, Scotland, 1799; family settled in Philadelphia, then Ovid, NY, then Pulteney, NY. John died in War of 1812. Daughter Catharine married James Hood. -Page/Paige; William Henry Page, Sr., born in England, came to America in 1829. Married second to Chloe (Thayer) Robinson, eventually settling near Webster, NY. Moved to Branch Co., MI, 1857. Son Riley Preston Page married first Elizabeth Hollenbeck 1859; settled in Branch Co., MI. Riley married second Sarah M. Keyes, 1873. Riley and Sarah were divorced. He returned to Webster, married third Emma (Conant) Wright, 1905. They moved to Ontario Center, then to East Rochester, NY. -Shook; Jonas (a.k.a. Johnathan) Shook married Annah (a.k.a. "Fanny") LaRoche and were parents of Lucinda, who married Orlando Keys in Niagara Co., NY, in 1845. The Shooks lived in Royalston, NY. -Sitzer/Sittser; Sarah (Sittser) Barnes's parents were David and Sarah (Mills) Sittser. Her grandfather was Andrew Sitzer or Sittser. The Zitzer ancestors came from Poppenweiler, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany, in 1738. -Thayer; William and Chloe (Preston) Thayer family lived in Braintree, MA, where the Thayers had lived since coming to America in mid-1600s. William and Chloe settled near Webster, NY in 1800. Daughter Chloe's second husband was William Henry Page, Sr. in 1832. |
