Hanging Rock Plantation - 1 May 1788, Henry Hunter Esq. Sheriff of the District of Camden, to John Chestnut of Camden Esquire William Ferrell late of the said state deceased, was seized in his demsene as of fee of 350 a. on Hanging Rock Branch, known as Hanging Rock Plantation at the time of his demise in the hands of Elizabeth Ferrell, Extx. of L. James farrell \ And now at this vs to writ Elenor of Wm. Farrell the thirteenth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & eighty eight to which day the afor-said Eleanor Farrell had leave to answer to the of him the said James before the Justices of the said Court of Common Pleas held at Camden in and for the district and state aforesaid comes the said James by his attonery aforesaid and prays that the said Eleanor to he aforesaid may answer and the said Eleanor at the solemly required doth not come or say anything in
Bar of preclusion of the Action aforesaid of him the said James but hath made default . Whereby the said James remains against the said Eleanor thereof undefined where for the said James ought to recover against Eleanor his damages sustained by reason of the premises in his behalf. But because all is not known to the Court her what damages the said James hath sustained by Eleanor of the premises. Therefore commanded that the Sheriff of Camden District in the state aforesaid do summon thirty good and lawful men to be drawn by ballot pursuant to the directions of the Act of the General Assembly of he said state in the case made and proved to be and appear before the Justice aforesaid at the Court of Common Pleas to be held at Camden on the ninth day of April next to make a jury according to the directions of the aforesaid Act to enquire which damages the said James hath sustained by reason of the premises and so forth.

At which day before the Justice aforesaid come the said James by his attonery aforesaid and the jurors of the jury thus present in the Court
and sworn having been by the said Sherrif duly summoned persuient to the Act aforesaid found that the said James had sustained damages to Sixty Five Pounds principle and Thirty Six Pounds Fifteen Shillings and Ten Pence interest lawful money of the said state over and above his cost and charges by him about prosecuting this suit in his behalf. Therefore it is considered that the said James do recover against her the said Eleanor his damages so found by the jurors aforesaid and also Eight Pounds Six Shillings and One Penny like money for his cost and charges by him about his suit in his behalf sustained by the said James and by the Court here adjudged at his request which damages do amount in the whole to be One Hundred and Ten Pounds One Shilling and Eleven Pence like lawful money of the state aforesaid to be lured of the goods and chattels which were of and belonging to the said William at the time of his death in the hands and possession of the said Eleanor to be administered if the said Eleanor hath so possessed in her hand to be administered then the damages aforesaid to be lured of the proper goods and chattels of the said Eleanor and be the said Eleanor in mercy and so forth South Carolina To wit--Eleanor Ferrell Administratrix of all Camden Districtthe goods and chattels rights and credits which were of William Farrell deceased was summoned to answer to James Farrell of a plea of trespass upon the case and so forth and where upon the said James by Daniel Brown his attonery complains that so here as said William on the day of in the year of our Lord one Thousand Seven Hundred and at Camden in the District and State there of and within the jurisdiction of this Court was indebted James in the sum of sixty Seven Pounds Six Shillings and Eleven Pence Sterling for certain work labor and services by the said James before that time done and preformed for the
said William at his special interest and request and being so indebted the said William in his life time the same day and year aforesaid at Camden aforesaid upon himself and to the said James then and there until afterward require and whereas the said William afterwards in his life time afterwards as to wit the same day and year aforesaid at Camden aforesaid upon himself unto the said James then and there faithfully promised to pay and content him the said William the sum of Sixty Seven Pounds Six Shillings and Three Pence Sterling when he should be there until afterwards required and whereas the said William afterwards in his life time to wit the same day and year last aforesaid at the place aforesaid was indebted to the said James in the further sum of Sixty Pounds Six Shillings and Three Pence Sterling for the like sum of money by the said James to the said William before that time lent at the special instance and request of the said William and being so indebted the said William in his life time to wit the same day and year aforesaid at the place upon himself assumed and
to the said James faithfully promised that he would will and truly pay and content the said James the said sum of Sixty Seven Pounds Seven Shillings and Three Pence Sterling when he should be Sheriff's Office I have by my lawful deputy endeavored to Camden Districtwithin named defendant but could not . I have there fore by my said Deputy left at the usual and most notorious place of the residence of the said defendant a true copy of the writ with a notice on the same copy of the of meaning of such service agreeable to

Camden District Lancaster County Agreement made between William Stubs and Eleanor Farrell before marriage The conditions is such that if the said Eleanor Farrell has any surviving child or children by the said Stubs Here the said Eleanor Ferrell her Negros that she is entitled to by her own property at this time with their increase is to desend on her own child or children If she the said Eleanor Farrell has no living child or children her Negros with thare increes is to return back into her one Blod Relation again at her this sd. Eleanor Farrill increas: And i the above said Stubs do agree that my rights by marriage to the said Eleanor Farrill does not Enable me to sell or dispose or intangle any of the said property wharsoever now the property of the said Eleanor Farrill and for the true performances of the above agreement i bind myself my Executors Administrators and assigns jointly and seorrly by these presents as withness i have hereunto set my hand seal this this 17th day of September 1789 and in the fourteenth year of American Independance signed in the presence of Will.
