Notes for B
ENJAMIN COOPER:
Benjamin Cooper is No. 92 on List of Persons entitled to Reservations, under the Treaties with the
Cherokee of July 8, l8l7 and 27th Rebry l8l9, according to the treaties.........."[coopernc.FTW] Next door (no. 91) was James Ward.

This information is furnished by George P. Stacks,72 Wakerobin Rd.,Russellville, AR,72802

In book GEORGIE by John Ward, Sally, Nancy and Cornelius III are listed with Benjamin & Pretty Girl and their children on Cherokee Emigration Roll of 1817 and 1834. They arrived in Indian Terr. (Okla) 5-30-1834, with seven slaves. There is no proof that Sally or Nancy ever married. There are 8 or 9 graves on old land settled in 1834.
From Links That Bind Vol. 1
Benjamin Cooper is recorded in history as having been a "squaw man" as he married secondly an Indian and raised a large family by his second wife. His daughters, Sally and Nancy are spoken of as being grown at the time.
Benjamin was in Franklin County, Georgia by 1803(as well as his father) and both had two draws in the 1803 Land Lottery.
He then moved to "the Indian Nation" which later became Gilmer County. In 1833 he organized the first Sunday School class (made up mostly of Indians) ever taught in Gilmer County. Soon after the organization, he moved to Arkansas with the Cherokees where he died.[coopernc.FTW]

Benjamin Cooper's career and migration parallel another "squaw man's" Richard Blevins.
